What do you access on my Strava account?
We request two Strava permissions:
  • activity:read_all - reads your activity history (title, GPS route, distance, time). We only store data for activities that intersect the Tennessee Riverwalk trail.
  • activity:write - only used if you enable the auto-append feature. It lets us add a "Riverwalk miles" line to your Strava activity descriptions.
We never read your profile followers, segments, clubs, or any data beyond activities.
Will you share my activities or personal data?
No. Your activity details (names, pace, GPS data) are never displayed publicly. If you opt into the leaderboard, only your chosen display name and mileage totals are shown - nothing that identifies a specific run or your Strava profile.
How do I disconnect or delete my data?
Go to Settings and click Disconnect & delete my data. This immediately:
  • Revokes our Strava access token (we can no longer access your Strava account)
  • Deletes your user record and all synced activity data from our database
Your original Strava activities are never modified or deleted by this action.
Why do some miles not count?
We use your activity's GPS route to determine which portions were on the Tennessee Riverwalk trail. A segment only counts if it falls within ~15 meters of the trail centerline. Miles are excluded when:
  • Your GPS route detoured significantly off the trail (road crossings, parking lots)
  • Less than 10% of the total activity distance was on the trail
  • Strava did not record GPS data for the activity (treadmill runs, manual entries)
  • Your activity started far outside the Chattanooga area (we skip these for speed)
For out-and-back runs and loops, we count every segment that touches the trail — so a 3-mile out-and-back scores 6 trail miles if both legs are on the Riverwalk.
Is this free?
Yes, completely free and Strava-powered. This is a community project for Chattanooga runners and is not affiliated with Strava, Inc. You need a free Strava account to use it.
How does the yearly projection work?
We divide your current year-to-date Riverwalk miles by the number of days elapsed, then multiply by 365 (or 366 in a leap year). This gives a "current pace" projection - it's not a goal-setter, just a reflection of your actual rate so far. The projection is hidden for the first week of January when the sample is too small to be meaningful.
How often does my data update?
We use Strava webhooks, so new activities appear within a few minutes of you saving them in Strava. If a sync seems missed, use the Sync button on your dashboard. You can also trigger a full re-sync of your entire history anytime.
What does "auto-append" do exactly?
When enabled, after each qualifying Riverwalk activity is detected, we add one line to that activity's description on Strava:
Riverwalk miles this year: 47.3 - tracked by RiverwalkMiles.run
If you run again later, subsequent activities are updated with the new cumulative total. If you've already written something in the description, our line is appended below it and we update only that line on future writes - never touching the rest of your text.
